I can't believe I only just discovered The Rifleman. I watched a lot of westerns growing up, Gunsmoke and The Big Valley and just about every western movie ever made but somehow I missed Rifleman. And I did love Chuck Connors so much in Old Yeller. What a memorable scene with little Arliss, with the camera aimed up at Chuck looking ten feet tall, and down at Arliss looking about an inch high. I remember Johnny in El Dorado, I felt so bad for him when he killed himself. But I never even heard of Rifleman until this pandemic and getting locked in and looking up old shows.

What an amazing show. I just love the chemistry between Chuck and Johnny, they have to be the gold standard for a father and son. Chuck is so big and Johnny is so small that it's really touching when something is wrong with Luke and Mark has to take care of him. I am always especially impressed with Outlaw's Shoes, where Luke is getting dragged out by a lynch mob and Mark goes running to fight them all. Makes me think of a Pomeranian facing down a pack of wolves. I could go on and on but I'll stop for now and just say I'm glad to have found this place. I'll send off a card to Johnny and do some financial support at the end of the month when I get paid. Stay safe, everyone!

Welcome to the Ranch!! I watched The Rifleman back in the day but I think I appreciate it more now. As you said, such chemistry between Chuck and Johnny. and the life lessons just cannot be beat. we need more of that today. You will learn so much from the posts and the people are great. Cowgirl has such a valuable amount of information. hope to see you posting as well.

I think Chuck was SO handsome and no one was more adorable than Johnny. See you later at the Madera house for some pie.

Yes, I definitely like the values that Luke taught Mark. Who could forget him telling Mark the story of Job when those men burned down their house? And the way Luke was far more concerned about Mark's values than his schooling, and he was VERY concerned about Mark's schooling! Come to think of it, I work in public schools and kids would be doing much better in school if there were more parents like Luke. He was even on the school board. And as you say, Chuck was very easy on the eyes, especially when he had his shirt off. lol And did anyone ever have a sweeter smile than Johnny and even in later pictures, he still has that same smile.

I'm up to season three but I did skip ahead and watch some episodes that seemed especially interesting. I guess I'll get to the end and then rewatch it all. I pick up on stuff better the second time around. See you at the cafe!

Hello Zanza, Welcome to the forum. I am very pleased you have joined us.

I don't know if you have seen this information, but if not, you may find this link very interesting: https://riflemanconnors.com/

Wildwest, your cherry pie looks delicious!!!

I will see you all at the cafe for pie and coffee. I am not a fan of milk. Growing up on a dairy farm, and at my father's request drinking warm milk straight out of the cow's udder really turned me off on milk. Yes, I grew up on whole milk. Although I don't enjoy drinking milk, there were times growing up when I enjoyed whole cream over chocolate cake, and my mother's homemade tomato soup. Yummmm!

OK, I’ll bring the coffee, and share it with whomever would rather have coffee than milk!

Your welcome for my promoting of the ranch/website. I look forward to see the seeing ranch once you and Wildwest are done house cleaning it. You picked a wonderful helper there, Cowgirl!!!

It would certainly be a big plus if Lucas and Mark would join us. :happycowboy:

Good, I'm glad you liked it! I like the entire website; it is brilliantly done! :happycowboy:

I can't take credit for Mark's Memories. That Michelle Palmer wrote years ago. I only came up with the idea. Michelle also revised the episodes for me. They are fantastic!

Now, Judy, milk is good for you. I like almond milk myself. Just think of Mark asking Luke "How do you milk an almond?"

I call him Luke. I know you prefer Lucas, I hope this isn't going to be a problem. I just got here, so far it seems nice enough.

OK, my attitude comes from being a member of the Lizzie Andrew Borden Society forum. There is a member on that forum who insist on referring to Andrew J. Borden as 'Andy'. I find that member is being very disrespectful to a gentleman who was brutally murdered, and it rubs me the wrong way.

I will try to hold my tongue when you refer to Lucas as 'Luke', after all the characters in The Rifleman are fictitious, where as Andrew J. Borden was a real human being.

Sorry, I have been voicing my irritation with your choice of a name.

It's okay, Judy. I get where you're coming from. I got to thinking about what you said and I went back and double-checked the episodes The Brother-in-Law and Lariat, just to make sure my memory wasn't tricking me. I posted in the topic about Luke and the schoolmaster that Lucas is indeed called Luke by both Johnny, Margaret's brother, and his old friend, Lariat.
