My guess is Mark was born in in 1870/1871-unless you go by Boomerang-he would have been born in 1860-1861 then.

Laura ingalls Wilder would be in Mark's age group.

I also found out that Calvin Coolidge was born in 1872, on July 4th. What a fitting birthday for a future president!

I wonder if Mark would have been in awe of the outlaws and lawmen of the times

Cole Younger 1844
Billy the Kid 1859
Jesse James 1847
Wyatt Earp 1848

remember when Mark talked about a machine to wash dishes.....the dishwasher was invented 1886 by Josephine Cochran
the phone was invented in 1876 by Alexander Graahm Bell............"but Pa we need a phone so I can call Sally Walker"!
and Mark talked about machines to take the place of horses.....the auto was invented in 1885 by Karl Benz

It is neat to see when things were invented, but that doesn't mean they were wide spread. Big cities like New York, Chicago, Toronto, place like that had access to new inventions, but even then it was to wealthy people. There were wealthy cattle barons, but the inventions hadn't been able to travel to the west. There are so many factors in the dissemination of new technology! Think about when computers were first built and how they were used only by specialists in certain fields. Even then, they took up entire rooms! It took quite a while from the first invention to have home desktop computers that you didn't have to program yourself.

I studied social history, so this is the kind of stuff I wrote essays and papers on. :grinning-cowboy: It gets me all fired up and excited! :huntercowboy:
